UNB, Dhaka :
The Supreme Court has turned down a petition of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to review its earlier verdict imposing guidelines for the High Court to grant anticipatory bail.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order after a hearing the petition on Thursday.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that the seven-point criteria set by the Appellate Division for the HC to grant anticipatory
bail will prevail following the rejection of the review petition.
Earlier, the SCBA filed the petition to review the seven-point guideline which was included in the copy of the full verdict of the Appellate Division last year that cancelled a High Court order granting a six-week anticipatory bail to BNP standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain in a money laundering case.
On February 24 last year, the five-member Supreme Court bench, led by the then Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, cancelled the bail granted by an HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed to the BNP leader.
