The annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will be held on March 15 and 16.
SCBA’s incumbent Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal on Tuesday announced the schedule by issuing a notification. A meeting of the present executive committee finalized the schedule, said he.
As per the schedule, candidates may submit their nomination papers from February 22 to March 3 and the nomination papers will be scrutinized after 5.30 pm on March 3. A candidate may withdraw his/her candidateship by March 6. The final list of candidates would be announced after 5.00 pm on March 6, and election will be held on March 15 and 16.
Vote casting will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break on the election days.
A seven-member Election Sub-Committee has been formed led by Senior Advocate A Y Mashiuzzaman, former Secretary of the SCBA, to conduct the election.
A total of 8929 lawyers have registered their names as voters for the SCBA annual election, said SCBA Secretary Barrister Kazal.
SCBA sources said the main contest of the election will take place between the candidates of ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (BSASP) and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (BJAOP).
The new executive committee will lead the SCBA for the session of 2022-2023.
