The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday demanded appointment of judges to the three vacant posts of the Appellate Division of Supreme Court immediately for quick disposal of the pending cases.
The three posts of the Appellate Division Judges have been lying vacant for several years but the government is not taking any initiatives to fill up the posts, said SCBA President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain.”Some senior judges of the High Court Division will retire soon and the government is waiting to recruit them to the posts after their retirement,” the SCBA president said while addressing a press conference at the SCBA auditorium in the capital.
There are some senior and competent judges in the HC division who are eligible to be promoted to the Appellate Division, he added.
Once three judges are appointed to the Appellate Division, three separate benches can be constituted to quickly dispose of large number of cases, he said.
He said the Appellate Division hears the appeal against the verdicts delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal on priority basis and it takes long time.
In this situation, the Appellate Division cannot dispose of the other cases quickly, he added.
