Accusing the government of carrying out the attack on pro-BNP former teacher of Dhaka University Prof Mahbubullah, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain on Sunday demanded fair investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment to the culprits.
“He (Prof Mahbubullah) speaks against the government in TV talk-shows. The attack was carried out on him by terrorists to take revenge for that,” he said while speaking at a press conference at the SCBA auditorium at noon.
Unidentified miscreants swooped on Prof Mahbubullah on the Supreme Court premises on Saturday while leaving the venue after attending the launching ceremony of a book authored by BNP leader and former Law Minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed.
Terming the incident ‘heinous’, Khandker Mahbub, also BNP chairperson’ s adviser, said through carrying out the attack, criminals did not hurt only Mahbubullah but also all the SC lawyers.
SCBA general secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon, its vice-president Rafiqul Islam and senior assistant secretary Nasrin Akhter were, among others, present.
