UNB, Dhaka :The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday upheld the High Court order that had granted six months interim bail to BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in two violence cases.Rejecting a leave to appeal by the government, a four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order.Adv Joynul Abedin and adv Sagir Hossain Lion stood for Rizvi while attorney general Mahbube Alam represented the state. Talking to reporters, adv Sagir Hossain Lion said Rizvi was accused of 22 cases and he secured bail 19 cases from the HC.On August 23, the HC granted six-month’s interim bail to BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in two violence cases filed with Motijheel police station in the capital.Later, the government filed a leave to appeal challenging the HC order. Amid the BNP’s non-stop countrywide transport blockade, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Rizvi from a house in the city’ s Baridhara area on January 31 this year.
