SC upholds BNP leader Khokon`s HC bail

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique yesterday upheld a High Court order that granted bail to BNP leader Khairul Kabir Khokon in five sabotage cases.
The Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division on Tuesday passed a “No order” on five petitions filed by the government against the High Court bail.
Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for Khokon, told newsmen that following the latest order there is no legal bar for BNP Joint Secretary General Khokon to get out of the jail.
Earlier on June 4, the
High Court granted ad-interim bail to Khokon for next six months in seven separate cases including the five criminal cases filed between 2007 and 2015.
Of the cases, two were filed with Gulshan and Kafrul Police Stations of the city in 2007 on the charge of extortion while four were filed with Paltan Police Station and another was filed in 2015 on charges of arson and vandalism.  
A court of Dhaka on May 4 sent Khokon, a former General Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students Union, (DUCSU) to the jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail in 10 cases.
