Staff Reporter :
The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday stayed a High Court (HC) order that restrained Pubali Bank’s Chairman Habibur Rahman and Director Kabiruzzaman Yakub to perform their duties as Directors.
Chamber Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after
hearing a petition filed by the two bankers. At the same time the Judge sent the petition in the regular bench of the SC and fixed December 8 for hearing the matter.
On November 29, a HC bench ordered those two bankers to abstain from performing their duties till January 5, 2017. The HC bench passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by an account holder and a share holder of the bank.
The two accused filed with the Appellate Division against challenging the HC order.
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Advocate Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury took part in the hearing on behalf of the two bankers, while Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud stood for the petitioners.
Advocate Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury said the reporters that there was no legal bar for Habibur Rahman and Kabiruzzaman Yakub to perform their duties as the HC order had been stayed.
