SC stays bail to ABT man Fida

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday stayed for three months the High Court order that granted bail to an alleged coordinator of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) Fida Muntasir Saker in two cases.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order upon a petition filed by the State seeking a stay on the HC order.
Earlier on June 16, the HC granted six months’
bail to Saker upon two petitions filed by the top alleged militant.
The stay order came after the State moved to appeal against the HC order.
According to the case details, Fida Muntasir Saker, during interrogation, reportedly revealed that he was the coordinator of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and had been recruiting new members for the Islamic State (IS) a Middle East based terror group.
Fida Muntasir Saker, son of former Bangladesh Navy Commander Mohammad Saker, had been by the Detective Branch (DB) of Police on June 7, 2015 from Banani DOHS area for having suspected ties to the militants.
Two cases were filed with Uttara West Police Station on May, 24, 2015 and Cantonment Police Station on May 31, 2015 under Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 on charges of planning or carried out subversive activities against the State.
Additional Attorney General Momtajuddin Fakir represented the State during the proceedings.
