Staff Reporter :
The lawyers of the Supreme Court on Monday started to file cases in the virtual courts. The cases have been submitted through email to the concerned Bench officers of the courts.
Advocate Shishir Monir sent a petition to the court of Justice Jahangir Hossain for the bail hearing of the Editor of Bengali Daily Sangram, Abul Asad, as the Editor is suffering from various physical complications.
The advocate claimed that he was the first person who had submitted first petition in any virtual court of the country.
The petition said, “Abul Asad is in jail since
December 2019. But this 80 year old senior citizen of the country is suffering from various physical complications including asthma. Besides, he is gradually losing his right eye sight. Doctors advised him to have cataract surgery on his right eye immediately.”
“Being a respiratory patient, he is at high risk of coronavirus. So bail hearing of Abul Asad is urgent,” said Advocate Shishir Monir.
Two other bail petitions have been placed in the same High Court Bench till Monday noon, one placed by advocate Dewan Md Abu Obayed Hossain and another by Md Shahin Mia.
Advocate Dewan Md Abu Obayed Hossain said, “Every bail petition is urgent. My client is in jail for one year. He needs bail. I placed the bail petition once again in the regular court, but the petition was not heard.”
“Virtual court is the demand of the time. Many countries have introduced the system. We have started it in a special situation. It is a good initiative,” added the lawyer.
After scrutinizing the applications, a cause-list will be published in the website of the Supreme Court including the date and time of virtual hearing, according to the practice directions of the virtual courts. Then the hearing will be held in the fixed time with the presence of the concerned parties through video conference.
