SC judge Nazmul Ahasan dies

Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan, a judge of the High Court division of the Supreme Court, died in a city hospital on Friday.
He breathed his last at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital at 6:15am, said a press release issued by Supreme Court spokesperson Mohammad Saifur Rahman.
Justice Ahasan was infected by Covid-19 virus recently and was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for treatment.
President Md Abdul Hamid on January 9 this year appointed new four judges including Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan for the Appellate Division (AD) of the Supreme Court. But, Justice Ahasan could not take his oath as he was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 infection.
Saifur Rahman said that his appointment as an Appellate Division judge could not be effective since he could not be sworn in as judge because of his Covid infection.  
Justice Ahasan was scheduled to retire on February 14. He was appointed additional judge of High Court division on April 18, 2010 and became permanent judge on April 15, 2012.
He was enrolled as High Court division lawyer on January 22, 1994 and as Appellate division lawyer on December 13, 2009.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at 11:00am on the Supreme Court Bar Association premises. Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Law Minister Anisul Huq expressed deep shock over the death of Justice Ahasan.
He will be buried at the Muslim graveyard in Barishal.
