The Supreme Court Bar Association will send a delegation for spot visit of attacks on Hindus at Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
Bar President Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun said this in a press briefing arranged in the Supreme Court Bar Association building in city on Sunday.
Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, General Secretary of the bar, conducted the briefing.
Yusuf Hussain Humayun said that after inspection of the spot the bar delegation would announce its decision regarding legal aid to the victims. In addition,
lawyers would stand for the victims personally who were present in the briefing, he said.
A report, prepared by the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad after their visit to the area, was read in the briefing by senior lawyer Barrister M Amir-ul Islam.
The report claimed that the anti-independence, fundamentalist and communal forces made Rosraj Mondol a scapegoat, who allegedly posted in facebook demeaning the Holy Kaaba. These ‘evil forces’ have devastated Hindus’ temples and houses in a planned way to tarnish the image of communal harmony of Bangladesh as well as the image of the incumbent government.
The report said, legal aid for Rosraj Mondol is being curbed. So, his case should be transferred to Dhaka as early as possible and he needs to keep in safe custody. “We think, Rosraj would be prosecuted as per law if he committed any crime.’
Formal Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed, who was also present in the briefing, demanded a fair investigation on the attacks and pledged of legal aid to the victims of Nasirnagar. Same pledges also came from formal Attorney General A F Hasan Arif in the briefing.
