Staff Reporter :
The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday sent a letter to the Bangladesh Bar Council, regulatory authority of the lawyers, to take necessary action against those lawyers who were involved in vandalizing the court rooms in Chittagong Judge Court.
The Bar Council has been asked to inform the SC about the steps taken in this regard, the letter said.
Abu Syed Diljar Hossain, Registrar of the High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court, sent the letter to the Vice Chairman of the Bar Council.
The letter said that on January 18, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan had rejected a bail petition in a case filed under Human Trafficking Law against Advocate Fazlul Kader and his wife Yesmin Akhtar.
At this, some lawyers of the Chittagong Bar Association showed non-professional behaviour. They also hurled abusive words at the judge and vandalized the personal office of the judge. The lawyers also confined the judge in his room for long time. The letter also read that the lawyers did the same behaviour with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka in 2000. A case was filed in this regard and some lawyers had been arrested.
But no case was lodged for the incident of Chittagong court as directed by the Chief Justice. So it was the duty of the Bar Council to take action against the responsible lawyers.
The Chief Justice thought that the Bar Council would find a solution of this incident by taking necessary steps against the responsible persons. Otherwise the repeatation of similar incident could not be stopped, said the letter.
