UNB, Barisal :
Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College was closed on Wednesday for an indefinite period following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus.
The resident students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by yesterday (Wednesday) evening.
Campus sources said, a 15-member new committee of the medical college unit of BCL was announced on October 19 with Al Imran as its president and Mohammad Tuhin general secretary. However, the committee has been dissolved as Anup Sarkar, a president candidate, opposed the new committee. Supporters of Imran and Anup brought out separate processions on the campus on Wednesday.
At one stage, they engaged in a clash when a chase and counter-chase took place between them.
On information, police rushed in and charged baton on the feuding groups to disperse them. After the clash, the authorities announced the college shut for an indefinite period and asked the students of three dormitories to vacate their halls by Wednesday evening.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus.
