Former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Monday wanted to know the ‘market value’ of the reputation of incumbent mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
In an immediate reaction over filing two defamation cases against him, Khokon said that he would continue the legal fight as well as fight on street against Taposh.
“Let me know the market value of Taposh’s reputation after getting the details of the case. I will face the case legally and the debt will be calculated on street,” he said in a press statement.
Two cases were filed against Sayeed Khokon for allegedly making libellous comments against his successor and incumbent mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Kazi Anisur Rahman and advocate Sarwar Alam filed the cases with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court on Monday afternoon.
Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury received the complaints and said he would pass an order regarding the matter later.
The cases came hours after Taposh vowed to take action against Khokan at a programme on Monday for accusing him of corruption.
Taposh and Sayeed Khokon, both leaders of ruling Awami League, had a conflict over the eviction of shop owners of Fulbaria Super Market.
On Saturday, Khokon complained that incumbent mayor Taposh had transferred hundreds of crores of taka of the corporation to its Modhumoti Bank Limited account as the bank was owned by Taposh.
Taposh on Sunday said that former mayor of the city Mohammad Sayeed Khokon spoke like an insane person out of resentment.
