The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit chief Monirul Islam on Saturday urged the youths to say ‘no’ to terrorism.
No on can get involved in terrorism if he or she keep themselves engaged in reciting, music, drama or other co-curriculum activities.
The CTTC chief and Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said this while he was speaking at a dialogue program titled ‘Youths beholder of the power to prevent extremism’ arranged by CTTC at CIRDAP Bhaban in the capital on Saturday.
“We are working on deradicalisation within our capacity. If someone does become radicalised, we want to make sure that it does not eventually translate into extremist or terrorist activities. And if anyone does participate in such activities, we arrest the culprit and carry out pro-active investigations. This is basically our mandate,” Monirul Islam said.
Khutbah on Fridays and other religious gatherings and seminars can play an important role in highlighting the proper values and teachings of Islam because these occasions involve the public directly, and create a strong impact on them, he said.
We live in a diverse society with people from different faiths and beliefs, there is a need for moral education, since without a common moral centre, we cannot coexist. We should try to work out a moral education-based model with teachings from all religions which will teach the importance of respect for each other, respect for different opinions, as well as
respect for every human life irrespective of what religion one belongs to, he said.
The program funding aid UNDP key person Mr Robertson, Actor Meher Afroj Shaon, Dhaka University’ Journalism Department Assistant Professor Shobnom Azeem, Mental Psychology Dr Farzana, several dozens of participant, including Kowmi students, journalists and interested different professionals, were present, in the event.
