Staff Reporter :The body of Sarwar, who went missing in a canal after rescuing two university students in the water-body, was recovered by divers of Fire Service and Civil Defense from the city’s Badda area on Monday afternoon. The victim was identified as Sarwar Alam, 29, a pick-up driver. He was in habitant of Uttar Badda and hailing from Barguna district, police said. Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Jalil said “Nine youths were playing football on a field beside Damai Canal near Benait Bridge No. 3 around 12:30pm. Two of themwent there to get the ball when it had fallen on the canal. But they started to drown. At one stage, Sarwar jumped in and saved them.”
Later, he drowned when he tried to recover the ball, the police official said.
A team of fire service went to spot following information and recovered the body from the canal around 5:00pm.
The body was handed over to the family members in the evening, he said.
