Green activists on Saturday urged the government to save heritage sites of the country and ensure exemplarily punishment to the demolishers of the centennial and traditional laboratory building of Khamarbari in the city recently.
The call was given from a human chain organised by Poribesh Bachao Andolan (POBA) infront of the Dhaka University’s Department of Fine Arts in the city.
Chairman of POBA Abu Naser Khan, its Co-Secretary MA Wahed and Barrister Nishat Mahmud, its Joint Secretary Aslam Khan, Md Selim, Chief Executive of Urban Studies Group Taimur Islam, Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University Nesar Hossain, Chief of Architecture Department of State University Sajjadur Rashid, President of Modern Club Abul Hasnat, President of Subandhan Somaj Kalyan Sangothan Habibur Rahman, President of Bd Click Aminul Islam, Executive Director of Suchana Nari and Somaj Unnayan Sonstha Shahana Haque, Programme officer of Work For Better Bangladesh Trust Syed Anannya Rahman, among others, took part in the human chain programme.
They demanded for rebuilding of the demolished portion of the laboratory building structure and to preserve it as a museum and take adequate leagal action against the destroyers who disobeyed order of the High Court.
They asked the government for taking integrated action plan to preserve the traditional buildings, structures of Dhaka and finalise a detail list of such traditional, antique developments for preservation.
