Visiting founder and director of Belgium chapter of the Society against Violent Extremism (SAVE) Saliha Ben Ali will share her experiences with civil society organisations at a seminar in the city on Tuesday.
The seminar titled ‘Campaign to Counter Violent Extremism – Sharing Learning from Society against Violent Extremism (SAVE) Belgium’ will be held at Dhaka University’s Senate Bhaban in the morning.
Saliha Ben Ali is a Muslim of Tunisian origin born in Brussels, Belgium and founded the Belgium chapter of an organisation called SAVE Belgium to support families affected by the loss or departure of a family member who joined an extremist group or cause. Ben Ali lost one of her sons in 2013 who left his family in response to calls to militancy and radicalisation. She started looking for answers to understand the reasons why her son chose the path he did, instead of staying with his loving family.
This inspired her to establish SAVE Belgium as she wanted to prevent others from such tragedy. Ben Ali strongly believes challenges can be overcome through joint efforts.
