In the face of the worker’s agitation for better pay and allowances, the owner Jhuma Apparel Limited at Savar in Dhaka district closed the factory sin die on Saturday.
Quoting the authorities and workers, Savar Model Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashish Kumar Sanyal said that a notice of ‘indefinite closure’ had been hung outside the factory after demonstration by over 300 workers on Thursday.
The ownership of the factory is being transferred
and present management was compelled to take the decision failing to meet workers’ demands, he said.
The workers gathered outside the factory on Saturday but after a while they left seeing the notice, the police official said.
