Saudi-bound Bangladeshi workers have staged protest at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital on Saturday over coronavirus vaccine.
During the protest, the blocked the road in front of the hospital demanding for either Pfizer or Moderna jabs as Sinopharm vaccines were not recognized by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
At one stage of the demonstration, the police removed the protesters from the road. Later, five representative from expatriates and police officials discussed an hour with the director of the hospital.
The protestors said that after receiving the mobile phone message for receiving the shots, they came to the hospital only to see there was no Pfizer or Moderna vaccine left. Only the Sinopharm vaccine was available.
One of the expatriates said: “My visa will expire soon, what do we do now? We spent a lot of money and came from the village for vaccination.”
Police officers and five protestors discussed the matter with the director of the hospital for an hour.
Hospital Director Dr Md Khalilur Rahman said that they do not have Pfizer or Moderna vaccines at the moment. “That’s why we are using Sinopharm vaccines to vaccinate people.”
“We only have the Moderna vaccine for the second dose vaccination,” he added.
