A Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir leader was killed and seven other were injured in a gunfight with law enforcers in Satkhira on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Aminur Islam, 30, secretary of towin unit of the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Five police members also sustained bullet injury in the gunfight. The injured policemen were rushed to Sadar Hospital. Police recovered two pistols from the spot. Being tipped off that a group of Shibir men was holding a clandestine meeting at a house in the area, a police team raided the house around 4:30 pm, said Inamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the Shibir men opened fire on them prompting the police personnel to fire back that triggered a gunfight, he said. Around 100 gunshots were exchanged during the gun battle that left eight Shibir and five policemen injured. The injured were taken to hospital where Aminur succumbed to his injury, the OC added. However, district Jamaat publicity secretary Azijur Rahman claimed that police fired gunshot on the Shibir men while they were taking a nap after lunch. — risingbd.com
