Saraswati Puja was celebrated with festivity and enthusiasm on Sunday at Jagannath University grounds to pay their respect to the god of wisdom and learning.
To mark the occasion, a discussion meeting was held in front of the university liberation war sculpture, where, JnU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mizanoor Rahman was present as chief guest, while JnU Treasurer Prof Selim Bhuiyan was present as special guest.
Besides, JnU Teachers Association President Prof Dr Ali Noor, General Secretary Prof Dr Abul Hossain, Awami-league backed Teachers Association ‘Blue Panel’ President Prof Dr Ashraful Alam, General Secretary Dr Noor Mohammad, Convener of the Puja Committee Dr Priobroto Paul, JnU unit BCL President Shoriful Islam, General Secretary Sirajul Islam, among others, were also present.
A priest of Joy Kali Temple Bikram Bhattacharjja said, ‘According to Hindu myth, Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and the arts, rides a swan or a peacock, or is seated on a lotus’.
This year the students of JnU put up mondops at the university Shahid Mineer precinct, the science and the arts faculty playground.
JnU acting Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad said, students had put up nearly 29 mondops on the university precinct.
According to Dr Priobrota Paul, Convener of the Central Puja Committee of JnU, ‘The puja started at 7am while the “Bani Archana” was performed at 9.00am. At 9.30am ‘pushpanjali’ was offered while Prasad (food offered to the goddess) was distributed at 10.30am. ‘Arati (special prayer) was held at 6.00 pm’.

Saraswati Puja was celebrated with much festivity and zeal at Rajshahi University to pay their respect to Saraswati, the deity of knowledge and the arts.
As one of the biggest Saraswati Puja celebrations of the sub-continent, the event featured different Halls of the university organising a grand celebration of idols.
To mark the occasion, RU Kendrio Puja Udjapon Parishad organised a discussion programme at central Mondir on campus in the morning. Among others, RU Vice-chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin, Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, student adviser Prof Sadekul Arefin Matin, RU Law faculty dean Prof Biswajit Chanda, Puja Udjapon Parishad convener Prof Mrinal Kanti Roy, Ruta general secretary Prof Pranab Kumar Panday addressed the programme.
Meanwhile, Saraswati Puja also celebrated at University Engineering and Technology (Ruet) on campus at 12:00pm. Ruet VC Prof Rafiqul Alam Begue and student welfare director Prof Kamruzzaman Hero took part in a discussion programme following the worship. A cultural programme was also held at Ruet.
The Puja was also celebrated at many educational institutions as well as at family level in the country.
