Saraswati Puja celebrated in dists

The festival for worshiping Devi Saraswati, Goddess of knowledge, literature and culture of the Hindu community, performed at houses, temples of the community and different educational institutions of Barishal yesterday.
The Puja celebrated every year on ‘Vasant Panchami’, the birth-day of Goddess Saraswati and fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh.
Hindu devotees, especially students and youths, celebrated the Saraswati Puja in different educational institutions and temples and houses setting up colorful mandaps and placing the idol of the goddess with different types of sweet meets, fruits and other items and articles of handicrafts.
On this occasion most of the educational institutions of the city constructing Puja Mandop placed the books and educational items on the foot of the idol of Saraswati to get her blessing in educational life.
Religious rituals, special prayer, Aroti, discussion meeting, cultural functions also held on this occasion.
Prices and demands of sweet meats, sweet curds and fruits especially sugar cane and jujube also increased on this occasion.
Saraswati, derived from the lost Vedic River Saraswati, one of the major water causeways in northwest India navigable in the third and fourth millennium BC and the source of her profound connection to fluidity in any aspect (water, speech, thought, etc.).
She is the Hindu goddess possesses all the learning of the Vedas, scriptures, dancing, musical power and poetry, knowledge, speech (Vac), revealed language and writing and represents the union of power and intelligence from which organized creation arises.
Bagerhat Correspondent reports: The Saraswati Puja, one of the important religious festivals of the Hindu community was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas on Wednesday amidst great enthusiasm and in a happy atmosphere as usual as else where of the country.
On this occasion more than 80 Puja pandals were erected in the town this year by the different Puja committees organized mainly by the students.
More than some 20 puja pandals were highly decorated under the galaxy of multi coloured flood lights and attracted a large crowd belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities. The image of Kapuria Patty was adjudged the best one in respect of exquisite beauty and unique style of decoration. A large number of Hindu boys and girls clad their best, visited the Puja pandals and offered prayers to the Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning for the blessing to shine in their academic career.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: People of the Hindu community yesterday celebrated the Saraswati Puja with the spirit of pursuing education and knowledge, traditional gaiety and due religious fervour everywhere in the city as well as other districts in Rajshahi division.
Puja mandaps, mandirs and a large number of educational institutions have been colourfully decorated as hundreds of devotees seek blessings since morning from the `Devi Saraswati’, the Goddess of knowledge.
The devotees, especially the students attired in colourful dresses, offered special prayers and observed fasting as per the ritual of the festival to seek knowledge from the Goddess Saraswati.
In Rajshahi city, a large number of images of Goddess Saraswati, symbolizing a graceful woman riding on a swan, were erected at different puja mandaps, mandirs and educational institutions. Swaraswati Puja was celebrated at Rajshahi University, Rajshahi
University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi College, Rajshahi Medical College, Teachers Training College, Polytechnic Institute side by side with different educational institutions and many other places in the city.
The celebration also included offering of Devi Aradhana, Pushpanjoli, `archanas’, `anjolis’, `aratis’, distribution of `Prasad’, `Arati Competitions’, cultural functions and staging of drama.
To mark the celebration, Rajshahi University Central Puja Udjapan Parishad (RUPUP) arranged a bunny archana programme at central puja mandap premises yesterday.
RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VCs Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Chowdhuury Jakaria addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with RUPUP President Prof Biswanath Shikder in the chair.
RU Registrar Prof Abdul Bari, Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman, Professor Emeritus Arun Kumar Basak and RUPUP General Secretary Prof Pronob Kumar Panday also spoke.
Similar reports on celebration of Saraswati Puja were received here from Chapainawabganj, Natore, Naogaon, Bogura, Joypurhat, Pabna and Sirajganj districts in Rajshahi division.
