An unbeaten century by experienced Kumar Sangakkara guided Sri Lanka to amass 314 for the loss of five wickets in the first innings against Bangladesh on the first day of the second and final Test at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Tuesday.Sangakkara notched up 160 from 245 balls. His superb innings was studded with 19 boundaries and three over boundaries. It was Sangakkara’s 34th Test century. Sangakkara reached his 100-run landmark 223 balls.Sri Lanka made a disastrous start losing early two wickets for 49 runs. Then, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene salvaged their team from danger adding 178 runs in the third wicket partnership before Mahela was trapped leg before wicket by Mahmudullah Riyad when Sri Lanka’s total was 227 for the loss of three wickets.Mahela made a worthy 72 off 147 balls hitting six shots across the ropes. Mahela scored his 46th Test half century using 104 balls. After dismissal of Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Dinesh Chandimal contributed together 67 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Chandimal was caught at the point by Imrul Kayes off Shakib Al Hasan when the tourists score was 294 for the loss of four wickets.Then, Shakib Al Hasan struck again and bowled out skipper Angelo Mathews for just five runs.Opener Dimuth Karunaratne and wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal scored 31 and 27 runs respectively.Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bagged a pair of wickets instead of 70 runs, while promising medium pacer Al-Amin Hossain, off spinners Mahmudullah Riyad, Shohag Gazi took one wicket conceding 56, 70 and 98 runs respectively.Today Kumar Sangakkara and Kithuruwan Vithanage (0) will resume their first innings.
