A Correspondent, Cox’s Bazar :
Sand is being dumped on both sides of Eidgaon-Khutakhali Road in Sadar Upazila of the district, for which accidents are happening regularly on the road, claiming lives of many people and injuring many others.
Allegations have been found that local influential quarters are doing this illegal thing giving bribe to local administration.
While visiting the areas, it was found that sand was kept on the two sides of the road at Eidgaon, Kalir Chhara, Khodaibari, Hanserdighi, Bhabir Dokan, Signboard, Puraton Dula Fakir Rastar Matha, and Notun Office in Sadar Upazila, and Fulchharir Chhara and Gazi Kalur Darga Bridge.
Local people alleged that the administration conducts so-called drives against them. As a result, the sand is never cleared from the roadsides.
Concerned people said this sand stacks are more responsible for accidents than the illegal three-wheelers on the road. Because, due to lack of space, the road has become narrow, so the vehicles can’t give side to one another during their movement. Due to regular accidents, many people are being killed and many are becoming maimed.
They, however, demanded immediate intervention of higher authority to solve the problem.
In-Charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station Alamgir Hossen said they are trying level best to take steps against the illegal sand dumpers.
If they get help from upazila administration, they can take full step.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Habibul Hasan said he will direct the upazila assistant land officer to take action against the illegal sand dumpers.
