A cruel festival of sand extraction is going on in Tetulia River of Bhola. The calm Tetulia River is breaking day by day due to continuous sand extraction. Hundreds of helpless families are in distress. Ordinary people are helpless due to this deed.
They have no choice but to complain to God with whatever they can. Such is the situation from Baghmara Bridge to the river behind the house of Tofail Ahmed, MP of Bhola 1 constituency, former Commerce Minister of Bhola. These irresistible sand robbers are not being suppressed as partisans in the government. According to various sources, several new sand hill have sprung up in several areas, including the South Dighaldi Union, based on the sands of the Tetulia River. Here all the local sand comes from the Tetulia river.
A syndicate has continued its business in the grip of power. The leader of that syndicate is taking thirty paisa per foot of road sand and fifty paisa per foot of sand of Sand hills. Such allegations have been received from the locals. The continuous sand extraction is not stopping in any way. According to various sources, Harun Gazi, Farooq Majhi, Nurnabi, Bazlu Hawladar and Jamal have been extracting sand with their dredgers. The work of sand extraction is going on 24 hours a day, day and night. And this sand goes to different quarters and Forlane road work in
Bhola. Although sand extraction was stopped in Meghna river, sand extraction was not stopped in calm river Tetulia.
As a result of sand cutting, the calm Tetulia river has now become turbulent. There is panic of erosion in the river Tetulia. The people of this town are becoming proletariat every day.
The severity of the breakdown is increasing day by day. The proletariat is now seeking the goodwill of the Prime Minister to prevent further disintegration. Bhola Deputy Commissioner and Upazila Nirbahi Officer did not agree to comment on the matter. However, when Barisal Divisional Commissioner Saiful Hasan Badal was informed about the matter, he said, “I have heard about it and I will do what can be done.”
