Dhaka South Juba League president Ismail Hossain Samrat was finally arrested early Sunday for his alleged involvement in illegal casino business.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Samrat and his associate Dhaka South JL Vice President Enamul Haque Arman from Chauddagram in Cumilla, confirmed Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
A mobile court sentenced the two Jubo League leaders to six months in prison for wildlife law violations and drunkenness respectively. RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam passed the order yesterday evening.
Arman was jailed because he was found in a drunken state during the arrest, the magistrate added.
Earlier, the RAB arrested them from a house in Chaddagram upazila in Cumilla district on Sunday over their links to illegal casino business in Dhaka.
Later, the elite force raided Samrat’s office in Kakrail and homes at Shantinagar and Mohakhali DOHS in the capital. Meanwhile, the ruling Awami League’s youth front Jubo League expelled Samrat as its Dhaka South unit President and Enamul Haque Arman as Vice-President for their ‘unsocial and anti-party activities’, said Harunur Rashid, General Secretary of the Jubo League central committee.
A press release signed by Jubo League’s Education Affairs Secretary Mizanul Islam Mizu announced the decision hours after the RAB arrested the duo in Cumilla.
