Samomona Parishad sweeps Chess Fed polls

Samomona Daba Parishad, led by Syed Shahabuddin Shamim, swept the much-talked-about election to Bangladesh Chess Federation held on Tuesday at the National Sports Council.
The panel, backed by Bangladesh District and Divisional Sports Organisers Parishad (Forum), grabbed all the 24 posts of the executive body.
KM Shahidullah (77 votes), Tarafder M Ruhul Amin (77), Gazi Shyful Tarek (79) and Chowdhury Nafis Sarafat (75) were elected vice-presidents from the parishad while Syed Shahabuddin Shamim (76) was elected general secretary. Moniruzzaman Palash (76) and Masudur Rahman Mollick Dipu (76) were elected joint secretaries.
The EC members are Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan (78), Engineer Mehedy Hasan (78), Nizamul Islam Khan (78), Liaquat Ali Khan (78), Kazi Zakerul Mowla (78), Baharuddin Bahar (77), Rashed Hossain Faruk (78), Belal Hossain (78), Debashis Dey (76), Anjumand Ara Aksir (78), Rafiqul Islam (78), Zakir Ahmed (78), Alauddin Saju (77), Nazam Nakvi (77), Sheikh Monirul Islam Alamgir (76) and Dr Monirul Islam (75).
Mahir Ali Khan of Samomona Daba Parishad was earlier elected treasurer unopposed.
Seventy-nine delegates, out of total 95, exercised their franchise in the election held from 10am to 3pm.
Sammillita Chess Parishad, which submitted a partial panel, failed to secure any post in the election.
