A captaincy knock innings by Darren Sammy and well supported by all-rounder Dwayne Bravo saw West Indies to record an exciting six wickets victory over Australia in the ICC World T20 held on Friday at the Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Chasing Australia’s massive 178 runs, West Indies reached home making 179 in 19.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Thanks to skipper Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo for their match wining 49-run unbeaten partnership that helped West Indies to post their second victory in the tournament.
The right handed batsman Sammy played an impressive 13-ball of 34-run with three over boundaries and two boundaries while Bravo supported him with 12-ball of 27-run smacking two over boundaries and two boundaries, after the two West Indies openers
– Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle – gave a solid start contributing 50 runs for the opening stand.
The left handed batsman Chris Gayle scored an explosive half century making 35-ball off 53-run hitting six boundaries and two over boundaries while his partner Smith supported him with 19- ball of 17- run wit the help of four boundaries.
Pacer Mitchell Starc was the most successful bowler for Australia picking up two wickets for 50 runs.
Darren Sammy of West Indies was named the player of the match for his impressive inning on the day.
Earlier, a blistering knock by second down batsman Glenn Maxwell and well supported by Brad Hodge saw Australia scored a fighting total of 178 for 8 from their allotted 20 overs against West Indies.
Batting first after winning the toss, Australia faced early batting jolt losing their three top order batsmen in the 41 runs of the scoreboard.
Later Brad Hodge and James Faulkner took the responsibility to repair the early damage contributing 52 runs for the sixth wicket stand to take the team to a comfortable position.

batsman Glenn Maxwell played an impressive 22-ball of 45-run smacking five boundaries and three over boundaries.
Sunil Narine, Marlon Samuels and Samuel Badree were the pick of West Indies bowlers taking two wickets each giving away 19, 20 and 37 runs respectively.
