Staff Reporter :The researchers are expected to develop salt tolerant rice breed in the country with next two years, which will help farmers to bring a revolution in rice production, it is revealed in a seminar.The Ministry of Science and Technology has arranged a seminar on Wednesday on progress of salt tolerant rice variety in the city. Addressing as chief guest here, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman said, the government has been given all kind of cooperation in research of rice and other agricultural sector to strengthening food production. The government is working to develop different part of the country to build crops hub to ensure sufficient food supply for the people, the minister said. Highly zink supported such paddy will be grown new hope among the farmers of southern region as they are frustrated due to lost production for saline water, said M Reazul Karim, director of the research project.Dr. Jeba Islam of Dhaka University and fellow on salt tolerant rice research placed a key note paper on rice salt tolerant rice.Md Serajul Hoque Khan, secretary in charge of the ministry and officials of the planning and science ministry participated in the seminar.Earlier the agriculture scientists of the country develop colt and stress tolerant rice variety.With the change of climate Bangladesh has to manage so many problems in livelihood. One of them increases salinity in water of southern reason. To avert the bad impact, the researchers are working hard to develop salt, cold and stress tolerant rice variety.
