One more person, injured during the violent clashes between the traders of New Market and Dhaka College students, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Thursday, taking the death toll in the incident to two.
Md Mursalin succumbed to his injuries at around 4:40am on Thursday, Inspector Md Bacchu Mia of DMCH police outpost confirmed it to The New Nation.
Of the deceased, Mursalin, 26, worked at a clothing store in New Market.
Police handed over Mursalin’s body to his family after an autopsy later in the day.
The 24-year-old shop staff got injured after being struck by brickbats on Tuesday, the second day of the clashes between the students and shopkeepers. He was then rushed to the DMCH.
He was undergoing treatment at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“My brother was a salesman at a clothing shop in New Market. He used to live with his wife Mitu Akter and two children, a daughter and a son, in a rented home in Kamrangirchar. He will be laid to rest at the capital’s Azimpur Graveyard after a namaz-e-janaza in Kamrangirchar,” Nur Mohammad, Mursalin’s brother told reporters in front of the DMCH morgue at 12:30 pm.
Besides, the body of Mursalin’s was handed over to his family after autopsy at DMCH.
A team of the Forensic Department of DMCH led by Dr. Monica Khandaker conducted the autopsy of Mursalin from 12.30pm to 1.pm on Thursday, DMCH morgue sources said adding that Mursalin died due to excessive bleeding from injuries.
On Tuesday night, Nahid Hossain, 20, a delivery man of Dlink Courier Service died during treatment at DMCH.
DMCH police outpost inspector Bacchu Mia said, Nahid, from Kamrangirchar, succumbed to his injury at around 8:00pm on Tuesday at DMCH.
According to the police, Nahid received head injuries at New Market area on Tuesday afternoon while the students of Dhaka College and traders of New Market were locked into a clash. Later, other pedestrians took him to the DMCH.
DMCH resident doctor Md Alauddin said that Nahid was put on life support.
Mursalin had a deep injury in his head. Other parts of the face were not spared from the injury according to his inquest report.
Doctors declared Mursalin dead on Thursday morning. His inquest report was then prepared by Haldar Arpit Tagore, a cop of New Market police station. He wrote, “The dead Md. Mursalin (24) has a white round bandage in his forehead and all over his head. A deep injury appeared in the middle of the head after the bandage was removed. Black injury marks were found in the left side of his forehead, nose and lips.”
The policeman wrote about the possible causes of death, beating to death.
