Bangladesh Railway has started selling of advanced tickets for homebound people during the Eid-ul-Azha yesterday.
There was not very big gathering of ticket collectors as the Eid is still almost two weeks away. The advance tickets of August 27 next were sold yesterday while advance tickets of August 28 next will be sold today (Aug 19), tickets of August 29 next will be sold on August 20, tickets of August 30 next will be sold on August 21 and tickets of August 31 will be sold on August 22, said sources in BR.
Abul Kalam Azad, Station Manager of Chittagong railway station said, of the 6,742 tickets, 4,602 were given to the counter for advance sale. “But, there are not many passengers in line to collect tickets”. Around 50 percent of the day’s advance tickets were already been sold till writing of this report.
Officer in Charge of Rail Police station at Chittagong railway Station Himanshu Das said, the law enforcers are very alert to resist the tickets possible passage to black market. Kamal Uddin Khokan, a ticket seeker said that he waited in the line for tickets. He got tickets to go home at Brahmanbaria for enjoying the Eid with his family.
Shobnom Akter, another ticket seekers said, “There is no extra arrangement for females to buy ticket”. The BR authority will add a total of 20 trains from Chittagong to different stations for Eid. The extra trains will run from next week. Of these, a total of two new trains will run on Chittagong-Chandpur route, four trains on Chittagong-Comilla route, four trains are for Dhaka-Mymensing route and four trains will carry passengers on Dhaka-Dewan Bazar.
On the other hand, the authorities of AC buses also arranged more buses for the upcoming Eid. Many passengers were seen collecting advance tickets from the counters of AC buses at Garibullah Shah Majar point.
