Sale of quality seeds of different Boro varieties has increased during the past couple of weeks due to its fair prices.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) sources said the BADC sales centres have witnessed a sharp rise in sale of seeds.
Primarily, BADC has given an allotment of 508.71 tonnes of Boro seed to sell those to farmers through its three sales centres located at the district town, Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazila during the current Robi season.
A large number of farmers throng the sales centers of BADC everyday for buying the seeds to plant them on their prepared lands to achieve their desired farming output.
A sack of seed of BR-14, BRRI Dhan-28 and BRRI Dhan-29 weighing 10-kg is being sold from the centres at Taka 355 and hybrid SL-8H at Taka 2,100, said an official of BADC.
Till Tuesday, as many as 230 tonnes of quality seed of Boro paddy have already been sold through the centres, he added.
Senior assistant director of BADC M. Mazharul Islam said sale of quality seed of wheat, mustard and winter vegetables continues at fair prices side by side with the Boro seeds.
A sack of wheat seed of Satabdi, Bijoy and Prodwip varieties weighing 20-kg was being sold at Taka 740 and per kg of mustard seed of TORI- 7, BARI-9, 14 and 15, BADC- 1 and Sampad varieties between Taka 68 and 70, Mazharul said.
Apart from this, sale of winter vegetables like Lalshak, Mulashak, Palongshak, bottle gourd, tomato and brinjal is also increasing as the farmers were purchasing those from the sales centres with much enthusiasm, he added.
