The secretary committee on 8th National Pay and Services Commission has recommended Tk 75,000 instead of earlier Tk 80,000 as highest salary and Tk 8,250 instead of Tk 8,200 lowest salary for the government employees. However, it suggested maintaining the 20-grade pay scale for the public servants. This was disclosed by Finance Minister AMA Muhith while talking to reporters about the secretary committee’s recommendations on the pay commission report. The secretary committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain, submitted its report to the Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday.Last year, the government formed the 8th National Pay and Services Commission headed by former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Farashuddin. Nearly 1.3 million public servants are eagerly waiting for the new pay scale. The secretary-level committee, headed by the Cabinet Secretary, was formed in January to review the recommendations of the 8th National Pay and Services Commission. The finance minister said that though he received the secretary committee report, the government will think about it after placement of the National Budget 2015-16 in parliament on June 4.”We’re not thinking about it before 4th June. But be sure, its implementation will start from 1st July 2015,” said Muhith. The finance minister also dropped an indication that the pay commission might be implemented in two phases like the previous one.He also rejected the idea that the implementation of pay commission would bring any negative impact such as pushing up essentials’ prices or common peoples’ expenses. He also mentioned that the secretary committed has recommended a permanent mechanism with certain percentage of automatic hike in salary instead of forming such temporary pay commissions to recommend salary hikes.
