AL candidate Abdus Salam Murshedy has been elected Member of Parliament unopposed from Khulna-4 Constituency (Rupsha, Terokhada, Digalia).
Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday declared Murshedy elected as there was no other candidate.
The last day of withdrawal of nomination papers was Tuesday.
According the law, Election Commission will now publish a gazette notification that former footballer and Managing Director of Envoy Group Salam Murshedy has been elected MP.
Returning Officer and Divisional Election Officer Md Yunus Ali said, yesterday was the last day of withdrawal nomination papers. But there was no other candidate. So, Murshedy has been officially declared MP.
However, Jatiya Party’s SM Anisur Rahman and independent candidate Major (Ret.) Dr. Sheikh Habibur Rahman hinted of contesting Murshedy, but at the end they did not submit their nomination papers.
It is mentionable that Khulna-4 Constituency was declared empty after the death of SM Mustafa Rashidi Suja.
