Salahuddin to remain in Indian jail for 14 days

Staff Reporter :BNP Joint-Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed was sent into jail after the Shillong police produced him before the court on Wednesday. The court sent the BNP leader to a 14-day jail in a case filed on charge of entering India without travel documents.Vivek Syiel, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Meghalaya police, told the media that Salahuddin would be produced for hearing again after the period.It was known that the police did not seek remand for Salahuddin and he was produced before the court without lawyer. The BNP leader was produced before a court of the District and Sessions Judge in the afternoon. Magistrate KNL Nombary passed the order after a short hearing over the case. The court also asked the Shillong police authorities to conduct medical check-up before sending him to jail. Earlier on Tuesday, Salahuddin was released from a Shillong hospital in India’s Meghalaya State. Later, he was taken to police custody. Shambhu Singh, acting joint secretary of Northeastern region of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, told journalists that the court might take legal action against Salahuddin according to the rules relating to passport or the court might order to send him to Bangladesh. In that case, Salahuddin’s trial would be held in Bangladesh.
