Sajib Hossain of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP beat Ariful Islam of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratishthan (BKSP) in the opening day (49kg group) battle of the Marcel National 28th Men’s Boxing Competition at Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium here on Saturday.
In the other 49kg Men’s group fights on the opening day, Shaheen Ibne Omar of Army beat Anisur Rahman of Dhaka district while Gregory Hasda of Army defeated Abdullah of City Boxing Club Rajshahi.
However, in the 3rd National Women’s Boxing Competition, Shamima Aktar of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP defeated Sumi Khatun of Rajshahi district team in the 53kg group at the same venue also on the opening day.
Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission Brig Gen (retd) H M Salahuddin inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest.
Including men and women a total of 80 boxers from 20 to 25 teams –BKSP, Corporation, Railway, DSA and Club teams – taking part in the meet organized by Bangladesh Boxing Federation.
Men’s are competing spilt in seven weight categories (49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg) while Women’s in three weight groups (51kg, 60kg and 75kg).
