Abdur Rahman Saikat who was picked up by members of Detective Branch (DB) Police, confessed to the law enforcers at custody that he along with his some friends went to the roof top of the building and threw Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa targeting to kill her, detective sources said.
Saikat also claimed to the police that he been trying for few weeks to cut off the love relation with Rumpa but she continued the relation ignoring my proposals, they said.
“Saikat therefore, lured Rumpa to come to the roof top as per plan to end the love drama,” they said after quoting Saikat.
According to another sources, Rumpa had been seeing Saikat in the beginning of this year, but they broke up by late March. Since then, Rumpa had been trying to get back with him which Saikat refused.
A Dhaka court has granted remand for Saikat for four days when DB Inspector Shah Akhtaruzzaman Ilias produced Saikat before the court with seven-day remand plea on Sunday.
Besides, the High Court (HC) directed the telecom regulator to remove all photos of the dead body Rubaiyaet Sharmin Rumpa. The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman issued the order.
Earlier, Saikat who was picked up by DB’s south unit Ramna Zone team on Saturday and he was shown arrested in Rumpa murder case.
Meanwhile, students of Stamford University have asked the authorities concerned to unveil Rumpa’s murder mystery within 48-hours, otherwise they will go for tougher movement.
The demonstrating students continued their protest for the third consecutive day on Sunday demanding justice over the alleged murder of fellow student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa.
Around 300 students carried out a procession inside the university’s Siddheswari campus and held meetings till 11:45am on Sunday.
The student’s representative Al Hasan Shovon said, “Rumpa’s murder mystery needs to be solved within 48-hours, or else we will go for tougher movement from Wednesday.”
“We will have no option, but go for tougher movement, including boycotting class-exam, if probe report on Rumpa’s death is not disclosed within next 48 hours,” he said.
“In these 48-hours, classes and examinations will be held as per pre-schedules,” he said.
On December 4, police recovered the body of Rumpa, 22, a second year student of Stamford University’s English Department, from 68 Siddheswari Circular Road, behind Ayesha Complex around 11pm.
She used to live with her mother and younger brother in Dhaka’s Shantibagh area.
Rumpa was the daughter of Inspector Md Rokonuddin, in-charge of a police outpost in Habiganj.
She was buried at her ancestral home in Mymensingh district on December 6.
According to police sources, Rumpa died after falling from a multi-storey building. Later police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Siddheswari road in city’s Mogbazar. Following the day, relatives identified the body. Later, a case was filed in this regard with Ramna police station.
The autopsy of the body was done at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) on December 5.
