Saif Sporting Club reached the semifinals of the Walton Federation Cup Football beating Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club by 7-6 goals in the penalty shoot-out of the second quarter-final at the flood-lit Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
The stipulated ninety-minute match ended in a 2-2 draw.
As the allotted ninety minute match ended in a draw, so, the match turned into extra 30-minute game. As the 30-minute match ended in a goalless draw thus the result of the match was turned into penalty shoot-out. The penalty shoot-out ended in a 4-4 goals draw. Later, the fate of the game was decided in the sudden death and Saif Sporting Club beat Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club by 3-2 goals.
Atiquzzaman of Mohammedan put his team ahead by a header using a ball which came on his way from a header of Mohammedan’s Burkina Faso recruit Munzir in the 1st minute of the match. Munzir got the ball from a flag-kick of Shohag.
After seven minutes, Saif Sporting Club’s Nigerian recruit defender Emmanuel equalised the margin by a shot using a corner of his teammate Shahed.
Saif Sporting Club’s Nigerian forward Engoke made it 2-1 by a placing shot in the 11th minute of the match.
Suleman of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club leveled the margin by a header capitalizing a corner of his teammate Shahed in the 43rd minute of the game.
After that the two teams failed to convert any chance. Thus the fate of the match was decided in the penalty shoot-out.
