Though she worked as a teacher in a reputed English medium school acting is the main devotion to noted TV, theatre and film actress Sahana Rahman Sumi. For this reason, after leaving
teaching in school, Sumi has totally concentrated to acting. Now she is mostly engaged with acting for movies rather than television dramas. Basically in 2006, Sumi came into discussion to play the title role in Wahiduzzaman Diamond directed movie Nacholer Rani. Now she is acting in eight movies. According to the actress, works of seven movies have already completed and rest one will be finished within this month. She has finished shooting of Afzal Hossain’s Maniker Lal Kakra, Awal Reza’s Megh Roddurer Khela, Saiful Islam Mannu’s Payer Chhap, Rana’s Jolrong, Masuma Tani’s Rupkotha, Zahidur Rahim Anjan’s Chander Omabosshya and Biplob Sarkar’s Agontuk. Sumi worked in these seven movies between 2021 and 2022. This month she will start shooting of Gias Uddin Selim’s movie Kajol Rekha, she added. While talking about acting in these movies, Sahana Sumi said, “In fact, I did not count I have worked in so many movies. Stories of all these movies are really nice and I liked all of my characters in these films. Directors cordially gave me scope for acting in these works. I really felt honoured specially I can tell names of Anjan Sir and Afzal Bhai. Few days ago, I finished shooting of movie Agontuk where I played role of Kohinur. It is also a challenging role. I felt really good to play this character. When I get good role I always try to give my level best effort to explore myself with the character. Kohinur is such a role. I am very optimistic about the character.”
In the small screen, Sumi started her acting career through Nurul Alam Atique’s drama Cycle-er Dana. Since 1999, she has been acting with popular theatre troupe, Prachyanat. With this group, she came into limelight to act in play Koinnya under Azad Abul Kalam’s direction. With same theatre group she also acted in plays Circus Circus, Man For All Seasons and Tragedy Polashbari.
Besides acting, Sumi is also working as a teacher in Prachyanat School of Acting & Design. After taking a long time break, acting in Nacholer Rani, Sumi acted in Gias Uddin Selim’s movie Swapnojal and Badrul Anam Soud’s movie Gohine Baluchar.
