Court Correspondent :An accused in the journalist couple Sagor-Runi murder case was released from Kashimpur jail on Thursday following an order of a High Court Division.Accused Tanvir Rahman walked out of the High-Security Central Jail around 11:15 am, said Senior Jail Super Md Mizanur Rahman. He also said that the bail order of the High Court reached the prison on Wednesday night and Tanvir was released on Thursday after scrutinizing it. Earlier, on December 2, a High Court granted interim bail to Tanvir. Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed during the small hours on February 11, 2012 at their rented apartment in the capital’s West Rajabazar area. A case was later filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in connection with the incident. Eight months later, on October 10, 2012, police arrested seven people including, Tanvir Rahman, a ‘family friend’ of the slain couple.Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on July 13 this year filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the validity of the detention of Tanvir Rahman in the Sagor-Runi murder case and also sought his bail.
