The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship will begin from September 6 and will come to an end on September 19 at Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The prestigious football tournament of South Asian Region was scheduled to held from August 29. But the reigning champions India requested to shift the date. Thus the tournament will start from the first week of Septemnber.
A total of seven teams splitting into two groups will take part in the SAFF Women’s Championship. Hosts Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will compete in the SAFF Women’s Championship. Pakistan can participate in the football meet as FIFA, the highest governing body of world football lifted the ban of Pakistan.
General Secretary of SAFF Anwarul Haq Helal said, ” Indian clubs will be busy to play in AFC Tournament on August. A good number of female footballers are the players of Indian National Women’s Football team. So, it was a tough task for India to take part in the SAFF Women’s Championship without them. The All India Football Federation requested us to shift the date of the tournament. So, we reshuffle the schedule of the tournament.”
The draw ceremony of SAFF Women’s Championship is scheduled to be held in this month.
