The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship was scheduled to be held in Dhaka from September 1 to September 10. But SAFF Championship is uncertain due to coronavirus outbreak.
The meeting of the Executive Committee of SAFF was scheduled to be held in Malaysia or Sri Lanka this month. But due to coronavirus pandemic the meeting has been postponed for an uncertain period.
General Secretary of SAFF Anwarul Haque Helal said, ” I am confused that SAFF Championship will be held in the schedule time. The gala football meet is uncertain due to epidemic coronavirus. No participating teams are in practice now. Before starting the tournament the participating teams have to get some time for preparation. But I cannot say when the coronavirus outbreak will be under control.”
Helal said, ” After the serious situation of coronavirus outbreak, the World Cup Qualifiers matches will be held. Besides, some football tournaments are scheduled to be held in that time. So, it is uncertain that SAFF Championship will be held in September. The Executive Committee of SAFF will think about the revised schedule of SAFF Championship. Everything depends on coronavirus outbreak.”
The four age group SAFF Championships are also uncertain due to coronavirus. Those tournaments are scheduled to be held in August.
