South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship will be held on October 1 to October 13 in Maldives. Earlier, Bhutan refused to take part in the prestigious football meet of this region as Bhutan government didn’t permit their team to send Maldives. However, Bhutan Football Federation requested to SAFF to give it three days to decide about the participation of the SAFF Championship. Marking the upcoming gala football meet, an emergency virtual meeting was held on Monday. After the meeting Secretary General of SAFF Anwarul Haque Helal said, ” SAFF has given three days to Bhutan Football federation to clear their position. If it agrees to take part in the SAFF Championship, SAFF will give permission to compete in the football competition.”
If Bhutan will play in the football meet, a total of six teams will compete in the football competition. Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan will take part in the competition splitting into two groups. Top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will play in the final. The winner of the final will be the champions of the gala football meet.
