SAFF Championship to be held from August 31

The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship will be held on August 31 to September 7 in this year in Bangladesh. The SAFF Championship was scheduled to be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in 2020. But due to coronavirus pandemic the most prestigious football competition of South Asian region was not take place last year.
Secretary General of SAFF Anwarul Haque Helal said, ” Nepal and Sri Lanka are interested to play in SAFF Championship this year. All India Football Federation said to me it will be tough task for the Federation to send their team out of FIFA window. Bhutan Football Federation said their team will not play in this year due to coronavirus outbreak. Pakistan cannot take part in the SAFF Championship as they have been suspended by FIFA. So, A total of five teams will take part in this year’s SAFF Championship. Hosts Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives will participate in this year’s SAFF Championship. The first phase will be held on Single League basis. Top two teams will get the tickets of the final.”
He said, ” The fate of the tournament is also depend on sponsors. If we get sponsors the tournament will run smoothly. Otherwise, It will be a tough task for us to stage the tournament.”
