Speakers underscored ensuring safer migration to enhance remittance inflow for strengthening of the national economy.
The opinion came yesterday at a discussion meeting organised by the Rangpur district administration jointly with District Employment and Human Resources Office at Town Hall auditorium in Rangpur in observance of the International Migrants Day- 2016.
Earlier, a huge colourful rally paraded the city streets. Led by Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, government officials, returned expatriates, relatives of the expatriates, overseas jobseekers, students, teachers, public representatives, civil society members, professionals and local elite participated in the rally.
The Deputy Commissioner attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Priyosindhu Talukder in the chair.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Toffael Hossain, Assistant Director of District Employment and Manpower Officer Amena Parveen, Principal of Rangpur Technical Training Centre Lutfar Rahman, addressed as special guests.
The speakers highlighted the conditions of Bangladeshi expatriates working abroad and mentioned that some of them were being cheated both at home and aboard.
Amena Parveen narrated the steps taken by the present government for raising skill and expertise of the overseas jobseekers and ensuring their safer migration, welfare, rights, dignity, honour and justice both at home and abroad.
ASP Toffael Hossain laid importance on adoption of long-term strategies and plans to make the migration easier and hassle-free.
The chief guest stressed on turning the huge population into skilled human resources to ensure better wages abroad and discussed the ways to avoid cheating and harassment in the migration process.
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes among winners of different competitions and crests among the highest remittance senders of the district and their relatives.
