Safe Motherhood Day observed in Rangpur

 Safe Motherhood Day 2017 was observed across Rangpur district with an intensive and vivid programme on 28 May, 2017.
Civil Surgeon of Rangpur district organised the event with the support of Plan International Bangladesh. Dr Md. Mozammel Hossain, Divisional Director, Rangpur was Chief Guest while Dr Abu Md. Zakirul Islam, Civil Surgeon, Rangpur chaired the event.
Dr S M Saidul Islam, Deputy Director, Family Planning, Rangpur and Dr Md. Mahbub Hossain, Assistant Director, Rangpur Division, Md Saifur Rahman, Additional Police Super, Rangpur were present as Special GuestOn the occasion of the day, two -day long different programme has organised like rally, debate competition, Mothers gathering with quiz competition, award giving among the best health service provider, discussion session with students, adolescent girls’, government officials and NGO representatives. The main objective is to reduce mortality rates of mothers and newborn babies by establishing safe motherhood as a right for women.
The theme of the day is “Want Safe Motherhood, Let’s Go to Health Center”. The day was started with colorful rally. Government officials, journalists, non-government organizations (NGOs) representatives, community people and health workers carried out the rally from the Sadar Hospital premises, Nilphamari at 10:00am in the morning.
A discussion session was held just after the rally where speakers gave emphases on safe delivery and pointed out the services of health centers on this issues. They added that now 42 Union Health and Family Welfare Centers (UH & FWC) of Rangpur districthas been ensuring safe delivery services and referral system round the clock (24/7) with the support of Plan International Bangladesh.
Another important event of the celebrationwas award giving among the best health service providers. A total of 18 award has given among 18 UH & FWCs and 3 award has given among 3 Upazila Health complexes.mothers gathering and quiz competition. This event was held in all UH & FWCs where participants shared their experiences and pointed out their role to ensure safe delivery.

Moreover, in each of the 8 upazilas of Rangpur district, post rally workshops were held on how to ensure quality services related to safe delivery through a coordinated manner. Government officials and NGO representatives participated the event and shared views, roles and come up with Upazila wise action plans.
