The rate of safe delivery services has increased 11 percent over the last six years providing 24/7 safe delivery services at Union Health & Family Welfare Center (UH&FWC) of Nilphamari district. In 2016, the rate of safe delivery services was 62.4 and in 2020, the rate increased to 73 percent.
Even in the pandemic of COVID 19, UH&FWC of Khutamara in Jaldhaka Upazila conducted 60 Normal Vaginal Deliveries (NVD) in October 2021, said the discussants during SHOW PSC cum SCORE Inception meeting on Monday at DBLM training center Nilphamari.
DC Nilphamari Khandakar Yasir Arefin was present in the meeting as a chief guest while Deputy Director Family Planning Mozammel Haque chaired the meeting. Development Advisor of GAC in Bangladesh Farzana Sultana was present as guest of honor. Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Zahangir Kabir and Director- Program Management and Implementation of Plan International Bangladesh Afroz Mahal were present as special guest. Assistant Director Clinical Contraception Dr. Md. Jahedul Islam moderated the event.
DC said, “Getting health service is very difficult during the pandemic of COVID -19. Keeping own health in risk, health service provider of SHOW project has been saving lives by providing services. This is noble work. I wish every success of this project”.
At the beginning of the meeting, Head of Central and Northern Region Programme of Plan International Bangladesh Ashik Billah delivers introductory speech. Director – CHDP of LAMB Bapon Mankhin delivers welcome speech. Project Manager of SCORE project of Plan International Bangladesh Dr. Omar Faruk presented a keynote article on SHOW and SCORE projects.
SHOW project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has been implementing in 3 upazilas of Nilphamari since 2020 with the support of Plan International Bangladesh and local partner organization LAMB. Earlier from 2016, the project implemented across the Nilphamari district, Panchari upazila of Khagrachari and Barguna sadar upazila of Barguna district. SCORE project has started in February 2022 and duration of the project is 6 months.
To ensure safe delivery and create easy access to Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Services/ Sexual and Reproductive Health Right (MNCH/SRHR), SHOW (Strengthen Health Outcomes for Women and Children) project has been implementing through strategic partnership with Directorate General of Family Planning and Directorate General of Health Services under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
A total of 5,038 safe deliveries conducted, 46, 307 pregnant mothers received Antenatal Care (ANC) services and 11,303 lactating mothers received Postnatal Care (PNC) services in Jaldhaka, Kishoreganj and Saidpur Upazila of Nilphamari through successful implementation of SHOW-II project during October 2020- December 2021. 1,352 mothers referred to higher centers. In addition, 254 CHW (Community Health Worker) and 48 CSBA (Community Skilled Birth Attendant) provided PPE from the project to keep them safe while providing services.
