Sadya Afreen Mallick to get Nazrul Award

Noted Nazrul singer and Arts and Entertainment of Daily Star Sadya Afreen Mallick will get Nazrul Award 2015. Prof Abu Hena Abdul Awal will also get the award in Nazrul related research works.
Formally, the awards will be given at a function to be held at the National Museum on August 27. Nazrul Institute will give the awards.
Sadya Afreen Mallick got gold medal of Chhayanaut in 1974. After completing her seven years learning, she secured the top position. She got the President Medal in 1969. Later she got many awards like Anandadhara Gold Medal, President Abu Sayeed Award and Kotha Lalitakala Academy given honour. In her long time 50 years music career she performed in many solo concerts in India, USA, UK and Canada.
Therefore, she also rendered Nazrul songs in BBC, Voice of America and Durdarshan. Only 12 years old, she first recorded Nazrul song in her voice. But her mentionable record was published from HMV under the direction of legendary Nazrul singer Firoza Begum’s direction in 1991. Firoza Begum got Nazrul Award earlier and she along with Sadya Afreen performed Nazrul songs for four-month long tour on campuses of USA’s world famous Harvard, MIT and University of Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, Prof Abu Hena has been involved with Nazrul research for many years.
