Returning Officer Mujibur Rahman declared Awami League candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah as Mayor of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) on Wednesday.
However, re-election will be held in nine centres for electing councilors.
The centres are: 4, 58, 67, 68, 82, 83, 87, 94 and 99. The probable dates of election are October 13.
In the Mayor election held in July, Sadiq Abdullah got 1,11,956 votes, while BNP’s Majibur Rahman Sarwar bagged 13, 776 votes.
It is to be noted that the Barisal City Corporation elections were held on July 30. The Election Commission formed an investigation committee to investigate the allegations of irregularities. After the investigation, results have been announced.
BNP candidate Sarwar, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) candidate Abul Kalam Azad and Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Obaidur Rahman boycotted the city elections with complaints of widespread vote rigging and manipulation.
